Standing Water Photos 4

So... this is what it looked like @ 5:33pm

It was a wet and soggy week for sure with HEAVY, HEAVY RAINS during Thursday evening. Like ALL night long rain. Below are pictures captured (during a drizzle) from Friday morning @ 10:30am.  As you will see, unfortunately the after pictures didn’t really photograph well (or at all) due to it being dark @ 5:30ish during this time of year.  Lesson learned for the next session.

So, let’s get to it.
Area 1 (115 St. / 6th Ave.)

Area 2 (116 St. / 9th Ave.)

Area 3 (112St. / 7th Ave.)

Area 4 (116 St. / 10th Ave.)

Area 5 (119 St. / 11th Ave.)

Area 6 (119 St. / 7th Ave.)

Area 7 (112 St. / 10th Ave.)

Area 8 (113 St. / 10th Ave.)

From what I observed, there was more standing water on our streets Friday (Areas 1, 3 and 8) than from any previously documented sampling. I suppose that this was due to ground saturation and the fact that we had no sun or wind present on Friday.

  1. I have a small rain gauge in front of the house. It overflowed at 5 inches on Saturday - yet in driving around the village I noticed only two areas that could be considered as having a significant amount of standing water and both those areas have a drain on each side of the street - 113 between 9 and 10 and 9th at about 116. Even so they were still passable. It's been raining for a week yet our streets appear to be easily navigable

    1. Hi Janey,
Thanks for updating all of us regarding your rain gauge. I know that several flood warning were issued to surrounding areas during this period. I also had no problems driving through any of our standing water areas when taking the pictures.

  2. There was another situation several years ago (I have not heard mentioned in awhile) where one or two properties on the canal side of Griffing had water pool into their backyards and spill into the house when the canal was high. Several members of the South Florida Water Management District and their staff came to inspect both the canal and the properties. It was shown that the problem was the backyard slopped TOWARD the house rather than the canal. This is not a problem that would be the responsibility of the village to mitigate.

    1. As I've said many times before, why should facts or truth get in the way of a good rant!
Kidding aside, thank you for clearing up and clarifying what looked to be a deliberate attempt to distort the factual situation.
