It was brought to my attention that during this week’s monthly commission meeting one commissioner demeaned and belittled several other commissioners.

Link to view meeting is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5IVwolQzrE&t=13455s

If you wish to view the entire (nearly) 5 hours of it feel free, but if not, go directly to time 3:22:02 and specifically @ 3:39:14 forward.

My question for those reading and watching this is… if this is the type of representation you’re looking for? Does this represent your choice of moral and ethical code of conduct between elected officials?

  1. My understanding is that this is a quite common occurrence. If and when I can find the time (and stomach) to review the other Zoom meetings for additional examples, I will list them and notify you all.

  2. I saw absolutely nothing disrespectful at the points
in the video that you pinpointed. Can you elaborate?

    1. Well Dan, first you previously saw no issue when Rox threatened an employee (and yes, Miami-Dade Ethics also agreed it was a threat- see the update on that thread if interested) and now you saw "absolutely nothing disrespectful" this go round.

So, can I elaborate further? Why bother? It seems to me you are more than willing to overlook misconduct when it comes from those you support. I will also mention that you are the only person I've spoken to (or heard from) that didn't find this video disrespectful and demeaning. That said, I'm sure there are a handful of others that agree with you....do you wish for me to list their names?

We need cooperation- yet all we are getting is nothing but contempt, public shaming and virtue signaling. However, of course you are entitled to you opinion and are welcome to share it here or anywhere else.

  3. Mayor O'Halpin and Commissioner Samaria are struggling with the process and it is not acceptable anymore. They have had months to learn the process and there are no more excuses for stumbling through every commission meeting. I would suggest Ginnie give up her mayor seat and let someone who knows how to run a meeting take it on. This is all just a huge waste of tax payer dollars and the only one benefiting is the attorney.

    1. Hey Brad,

Hope you're well. You have an interesting take on what you're seeing. And I'm glad you're aware of the thousands of dollars being wasted by these meetings.

But, here's what I see.... 20% of the vote is eating up 80% of the time chewing scenery and virtue signalling. But, they have all now agreed to limit conversations to 5 minutes each and that's a step in the right direction....if it's followed. So, we'll wait and see.

  4. Wanna a laugh? Look to 4:07:21 where the attorney states, "I'm done" (perhaps looking to move on after 4+ hours) and then face palms @ 4:07:27 when more is injected into the conversation. Says it all.

    Hi Milt:

Thank you for sharing your latest posting on the behavioral actions going on at Commissioners’ Meeting, namely, the most recent one and the one that a commissioner played out against another commissioner.

To tell you the truth, these meetings should not be used as the “arena” to have a bullish tantrum. I think the time is ripe to put in place something in writing to stop this type of behavior from the very people who are supposed to be leading the Village, it is so unbecoming and those who participate in those meetings should have the right to put a stop to these “free for all” insults against a colleague. It makes one wonder, what is a person doing being a member of a commission, in a municipality who behaves out of control and “spitting out” what comes out of his mouth?

Who wants such a person to be a leader in decisions being made by an individual who losses control when he speaks to demean another person? What can be accomplished if animosity prevails in such meetings?

Why not suggest that anyone on the Commission or in the audience who attends commission meetings and, bring with him/her a disgruntled attitude and disruption to the meeting, he/she will immediate be asked to leave the meeting, by Zoom or by being disconnected from the Virtual Meeting. Don’t give anyone the opportunity to “vote” on it, this needs to be put in place due to what was vividly witnessed at the last Commissioners’ Meeting, there is no excuse for anyone in their right mind to behave in such a manner.

This is how this looks to me and it is not becoming conduct at a Commissioners’ Meeting, it should not be tolerated. I am glad you brought it out and hopefully, there will bring a change.

I hope all is well with you.

    Merci

  6. This would truly be a valuable discussion if when we speak of poor behavior we identify who specifically behaved poorly. I honestly can make assumptions based on my knowledge of some people’s opinions of some on the commission, but some of those people have different opinions on different subjects.

Just come out and say - commissioner x disrespected commissioner y when z was said. This would permit discussion on the merits of ones opinion.
